David Malukas sent to hospital after IndyCar practice crash in Nashville

LEBANON, TN – The first practice for IndyCar’s Music City Grand Prix saw David Malukas spin out into the wall in Turn 2, leading to Malukas being sent to a local hospital. After spending about an hour in the Vanderbilt LifeFlight care center and IndyCar’s medical unit transporter, Malukas was transported to the hospital via private vehicle for further testing, via Dr. Angela Fiege.

Malukas’ No. 12 Team Penske Chevrolet spun on Nashville Superspeedway’s bumpy oval, leading to the rear of the vehicle crashing into the wall. His steering wheel appeared to make contact with his right leg before dislodging from the car.

Malukas was sent to a hospital during last year’s Music City Grand Prix after making contact with Louis Foster. Malukas was transported via an emergency helicopter following that crash, while Saturday’s accident did not require an ambulance to get to the hospital.

Saturday’s qualifying session for Sunday’s race begins at 3 p.m., and it’s unclear if Malukas will be able to participate.
