Pike Township schools president faced vandalism at home after town hall, he says

Property at the home of the Pike Township school board president in Indianapolis was vandalized after a town hall meeting with community members, according to a statement on the school district’s Facebook page.

“While we have not identified the culprit or the motive, we want to reiterate that threats or intimidation against board members are illegal acts and are not appropriate expressions of political disagreement,” reads the statement.

The vandalism took place at the home of Terry Webster, president of the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township’s board of education, on July 9. The day before, Webster and the rest of the school board held a town hall regarding the recent hiring of a co-athletic director in the district.  Police believe the vandalism was intentional, according to the statement from Webster and the school board’s counsel.

Webster did not return a phone call from IndyStar before publication of this article, but public records show a police report was filed in the case.  The statement does not specify what was damaged at Webster’s home, but the police report cites damages to the mailbox.

“While not everyone will agree with every decision of the board, disagreements should be communicated through calm discourse,” reads the message posted to the school district’s Facebook page. “Any acts of intimidation that threaten the safety of the board members and their families will be reported to the authorities and not tolerated.”
