The drama has rarely been higher before the final round of The Open Championship. Two record-tying rounds and an epic score change loom over the proceedings at Royal Birkdale.
Bryson DeChambeau was slated to be in the final pairing with leader Lucas Herbert, who carded one of two 62s in Round 2 to jump atop the leaderboard at 8 under. But the R&A ruled after the fact that the LIV Golf and YouTube star had affected his lie on hole No. 5, leading to a two-stroke penalty that dropped him to 5 under and got the two-time U.S. Open champ steaming mad. This is the first major cut that DeChambeau has made this year; can he shake off the penalty to continue his run?
Cameron Young is in great position to go after his first career major, entering two strokes behind Herbert. He enters moving day tied with first-round leader Jackson Suber and Ryan Gerard, the two of whom have one PGA Tour win between them. Reigning champion Scottie Scheffler and Southport native Tommy Fleetwood come in four strokes back, alongside Robert MacIntyre, Alex Fitzpatrick and 2018 Open champion Francesco Molinari.

Bryson DeChambeau penalty: What happened on 5th hole
After finishing his second round, Bryson DeChambeau was assessed a two-stroke penalty after R&A officials ruled he inadvertently improved the area around his ball in the deep grass on the fifth hole. The score change took DeChambeau from 7 under and alone in second place to 5 under and in a tie for fifth. After midnight in the UK, DeChambeau tweeted that he didn’t agree with the ruling, but that it “fires me up.” He then wrote: “On to the weekend. Let’s get it.”
