Curtis Martin's honor is a full-circle moment for a Jets legend

The NFL draft has been called an inexact science and, at times, a crapshoot. Ask any New York Jets fan, and they’ll tell you that both descriptions hold up when you consider how often opinions differ the moment a pick is made.

That part never changes. What does change is how those picks are remembered. Some fade into the background. Others become part of franchise history. For the Jets, few selections, or in this case acquisitions, have aged better than the signing that brought Curtis Martin to town.

The Jets got that decision right.

After being drafted by a rival, and beginning his career with the New England Patriots, Martin arrived in New York in 1998 and quickly became the face of the franchise. He was durable, consistent, and relentlessly productive. He missed just one game over his first seven seasons with the team en route to earning three Pro Bowl nods. He eventually carved out a Hall of Fame career.

Now, he’s stepping back into the spotlight.

Curtis Martin will announce Jets’ second-round picks at the 2026 NFL Draft

The announcement carries a little extra meaning this year. The draft will be held in Pittsburgh, Martin’s hometown, and the place where his collegiate football journey began with the Pitt Panthers. It’s a full-circle moment for one of the most respected figures in Jets history.

It also comes at an important time for the organization. The Jets hold four of the top 44 selections, including two in the second round.

Those are premium opportunities to add impact players, the kind that can help reshape the roster and, potentially, the direction of the franchise. Fittingly, those names will be called by someone who knows exactly what that kind of impact looks like, Curtis Martin.

One day, the Jets hope to look back on this draft class the same way they look at Curtis Martin’s arrival, with certainty that they got it right. Until then, it all begins with the picks, and there’s no better voice to announce them than one who already helped define what success looks like in green and white.

Martin’s face is on everyone’s Mount Rushmore of Jets legends. Time will tell if one of the new guys joins him there.
