Two recent polls offer insight into how New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has performed so far leading the city.

The 34-year-old, who recently surpassed his 100th day in office, has had all eyes on his performance after the former assemblyman followed a whirlwind campaign last year. He climbed to the top of the mayoral race in mere months, shocking many as he beat one of the biggest political names in NYC for the Democratic nomination.

Zohran Mamdani approval rating: What the polls say

Emerson College

According to a new Emerson College poll, Mamdani saw a 43% of approval rating and a 27% disapproval rating 100 days into his first four-year term leading New York City. Thirty percent of NYC registered voters surveyed are neutral.

A majority of those voters (59%) think New York City in on “the wrong track.” A majority of voters (also 59%) also said Mamdani has focused on issues important to them, according to the poll. Among those topics – childcare, housing affordability, public safety and the city’s budget – Mamdani’ ranked the highest on childcare with 54% of those surveyed approving his efforts and 25% disapproving.

He ranked the lowest on the city budget, with 40% approving his efforts and 37% on the flip side. The poll was conducted between April 4 and 5 and was released several days later.

Marist Institute for Public Opinion

The survey from the Marist Institute for Public Opinion found that 48% of city residents approve of Mamdani’s job performance, while 30% disapprove. Another 23% said they were unsure, a “notable” share, according to pollsters.

According to the report, Mamdani receives positive reviews on his job performance from New York City residents. “Mamdani is also perceived as being likeable, hard working, caring, a good leader, representing all New York City residents, and a unifying force in the Big Apple.”

Via the poll: 61% said that he’s doing more work to unite the city than divide it. And almost three quarters of those surveyed said that Mamdani was hard working in his new role.

“When compared with his predecessors at similar points in their administrations, Mamdani outperforms both Eric Adams and Bill de Blasio among registered voters in terms of effecting positive change in New York City,” the poll said.

The Marist poll was completed during the final days of March and was released last week.
