Investigators are continuing efforts to determine the cause of a fire that left a city of Canandaigua home with significant smoke damage. It was deemed uninhabitable.
No one was hurt in the fire, according to the Canandaigua Fire Department.

The occupants of the home at 131 Thad Chapin St. were able to leave the home and met firefighters when they arrived shortly before 6:30 p.m. April 15, firefighters said.
First responders found heavy smoke on the first floor of the two-story home when they arrived. The fire started in the basement, although the city’s fire investigation team and police are trying to determine the cause, investigators said.
Utilities in the basement also sustained fire damage, firefighters said.
In addition to city firefighters, Cheshire and Canandaigua Veterans Affairs firefighters battled the fire.
Firefighters also praised the Ontario County 911 Center, Ontario County Emergency Management, Canandaigua Emergency Squad, Canandaigua police, Canandaigua Department of Public Works and Hopewell Fire Department for their efforts.
