“We had somebody lose their life today,” Officer Drew Brown said at the scene. “A family is going to be getting that unfortunate knock on the door that none of us wants to get.”
At 12:45 p.m. May 9, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police were called to the 6200 block of Michigan Road on a report of a crash between a motorcycle and an SUV. Officers found both the motorcycle and SUV on fire, and a man still on the motorcycle unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Marion County Coroners Office was on scene and will determine the cause and manner of death and the identity of the man will be released pending next of kin being notified.
The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Brown said the driver has been cooperating with the investigation, and intoxication is not believed to be a factor, but he will be subject to a standard blood draw.
