Congratulations to Hamilton Southeastern senior Chloe Senefeld, who was voted by readers as the IndyStar’s track and field Athlete of the Week for May 18-23.
A new week calls for a new Athlete of the Week for May 25-30. Girls and boys track athletes punched their tickets to the state meet at regionals this past week.
Here are the nominees for the IndyStar’s high school track and field athlete. IndyStar readers vote to decide this week’s winner. Voting closes at noon on Thursday, June 4. The poll is at the bottom of the article.
Athletes are listed in alphabetical order by last name.
Omar Daniels, Kokomo, Jr.
Daniels won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.04 at the Lafayette Jefferson regional site. He also placed second (37.80) in the 300-meter hurdles.
Brayden Jake, Warren Central, Jr.
Jake won a regional title in the long jump at Greenfield-Central on Thursday. He recorded a winning leap of 22 feet, 7 inches. He also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash finals.
Breck Mallory, Lawrence North, Sr.
Mallory had a busy night at regionals at Greenfield-Central. He placed second in the long jump (22-6) and discus (164-4). He also placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (41.19) and shot put (48-1.25).
Gabrielle Moore, North Central, Sr.
Moore became a regional champion in the 100-meter dash (12.09) at Greenfield-Central. She was a runner-up in the 200-meter dash (24.85).
Kaleb Rasheed, Avon, Sr.
Rasheed placed top two in the discus and shot put at regionals at Plainfield. He threw 198 feet, 5 inches to win the discus event. He scored a 62 feet, 3.5 inches as a runner-up in the shot put.
Adriene Shaevitz, Bloomington South, Sr.
Shaevitz won the 100-meter hurdles (13.84) and placed second in the 300-meter hurdles (46.55) at regionals at Bloomington North.
Elnora Stevenson, Whiteland Community, Sr.
Stevenson won a pair of regional titles at Ben Davis. After placing seventh in the prelims, she won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.18. She also won the long jump (19-8). She also placed fourth in the 100-meter dash finals.
Isabella Sotelo, Eastern Hancock, Jr.
Sotelo was a double hurdles champion at the regional meet at Greenfield-Central. She won the 100-meter hurdles (14.03) and 300-meter hurdles (42.42).
Ella Ventrone, Zionsville, Fr.
Ventrone became a regional champion in the 300-meter hurdles at Ben Davis. She crossed the finish line at 43.88.
Michael Walker Jr., Hammond Morton, Soph.
Walker won two regional titles at Valparaiso high school on Thursday. He placed first in the 100-meter dash (10.55) and 200-meter dash (21.70).
