MUNCIE, IN — A Muncie man recently charged with killing his girlfriend and shooting two other people now stands accused of having child pornography on his cell phone.
City police have filed court documents accusing 21-year-old Rylynn J. Davis of 12 counts of possession of child porn, a Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison.
Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman’s office will determine whether formal charges will be filed.
Davis was already being held without bond in the Delaware County Jail. He is charged with murder in the the May 10 shooting death of his 23-year-old girlfriend, Cheyenne Raines, outside the home they shared in the 2700 block of South Walnut Street.
He faces a total of 10 charges stemming from the events of that day, including attempted murder and kidnapping. He is also accused of shooting two Muncie men, one of them in the head, who had stopped after they reportedly saw Davis dragging his girlfriend down a sidewalk by her feet.
A Muncie police detective reported he examined Davis’ phone as part of the homicide investigation and found many videos and photos “that clearly depicted young children engaged in sexual acts.”
The children shown were “clearly under 12 years of age,” the detective wrote, with many of them “clearly very young prepubescent children.”
Interviewed by police on Tuesday, May 26, Davis acknowledged ownership of the Samsung phone but maintained he had not possessed “any child sexual abuse material.”
His trial on the charges stemming from the May 10 shootings has been set for Oct. 13 in Delaware Circuit Court 1.
Court records reflect no prior convictions for the Muncie man.
