Tell City man identified in Saddle Lake death; cause undetermined

TELL CITY, Ind. — The man whose body was discovered by fishermen at Saddle Lake in Perry County on Memorial Day has been identified as Anthony E. Evrard, 43, of Tell City, the Perry County Coroner’s Office announced Friday.

Authorities had identified Evrard in the days following the May 25 incident but had not publicly released his name while next of kin were notified, according to Coroner Warren Taylor. An autopsy was performed Thursday.

The cause of death remains undetermined, Perry County Sheriff Dave Faulkenberg told reporters.

Evidence collected from the scene has been submitted to FBI laboratories in Quantico, Virginia, for testing, and investigators are also reviewing phone records and social media activity. The investigation is ongoing while authorities await lab results.

Evrard was a Tell City native who graduated from Tell City High School and attended Ball State University and the University of Louisville. He worked as a truck driver for Pilot, delivering fuel, and was known among those who loved him for his wit and outgoing personality, his obituary states. He enjoyed hiking, country music and video games.

Evrard is survived by his fiancée, Sasha Patel, and her son, Jackson. A visitation will be held Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Huber Funeral Home’s Tell City Chapel.

Evrard’s body was found near the boat ramp at Saddle Lake, a recreation area within the Hoosier National Forest, at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Memorial Day by fishermen who called 911. His vehicle was also found at the scene. The FBI is leading the investigation because the lake sits on federal land.

Anyone who was in the area Sunday night or early Monday morning with relevant information is asked to contact the Perry County Sheriff’s Office at 812-547-2441.
