Why Jaguars signed TE Brenton Strange to contract extension

The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed another key member of the team to a contract extension.

According to Tom Pelissero, the Jaguars and tight end Brenton Strange have agreed to a three-year contract extension, worth up to $48 million. This includes $25 million guaranteed.

The 2026 season was set to be the final year of Strange’s rookie deal. He is now under contract through the 2029 season.

Strange brings a reliable pass-catching presence to the Jacksonville offense, however, his impact goes well beyond that phase of the game.

Paired with his pass-catching prowess is his ability to contribute as a blocker in the run game and his versatility, which allows Liam Coen to move Strange around the formation.

This do-it-all presence adds a level of unpredictability to the Jaguars’ offense. With Strange able to fill so many roles, it becomes very difficult for defenses to get a bead on what’s coming. This not only creates opportunities for Strange, but it also opens up opportunities for others in both the run and passing games.

Strange, Travon Walker, and Ross Matiscik have all received contract extensions this offseason. Next up is Parker Washington.
