A 39-year-old woman arrested June 23 faces several charges including false imprisonment and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon related to an accusation of hitting a woman in the face with a hammer, according to an arrest affidavit.
Indian River County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a 7-Eleven store in the 8500 block of U.S. 1 in Sebastian at 4:34 p.m., in response to a disturbance between two women.
One of the women had called 911. The other woman, later identified by police as Heather Lynn Wilson of Kalamazoo, Michigan, started yelling at the officer who arrived at the store where she was fueling a car, the affidavit stated.
Wilson tried to get into her gray Dodge Challenger before the officer grabbed her by the arm. She then started to pull away from the officer and refused to comply with the officer’s commands. She’s accused of scratching the deputy’s hands, kicking his legs and trying to dig her nails into his arms, the affidavit stated.
Deputies found a hammer on the passenger’s side floorboard of Wilson’s car, with “a small amount of blood,” on it, the affidavit stated.
Deputies then talked with the other woman who had been in the car, identified as Wilson’s mother, who had bruising on her left eye socket, bloody scratches on her left cheek and bruising on her neck, according to the affidavit.
The woman told deputies that Wilson had been dealing with identity theft and had accused her of being part of it when they were driving from Brevard County, the affidavit stated.
While Wilson was driving, she threatened to hit her mother with a metal construction hammer. After the mother denied her involvement in the identity theft, Wilson struck her in the face with the hammer, according to the arrest report.
When the mother called 911, Wilson told her to throw the phone out the window. When the phone rang from the 911 call back, the woman told deputies Wilson hit her in the face again and threw the phone out the window.
Wilson was “running red lights and driving at excessive speeds,” the affidavit stated, and is accused of refusing to let her mother out of the car.
When Wilson stopped at the 7-Eleven, her mother attempted to throw the car keys, but she resisted when she was threatened again with the hammer. She fled the vehicle after Wilson hit her in the stomach with the hammer, according to the report.
Deputies found a red bite mark on her back before rescue crews took her to Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and released, according to sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Jaworski.
Wilson was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, battery, tampering with a witness or information, false imprisonment of an adult, battery on an officer and resisting an officer with violence.
She remained in the Indian River County Jail on June 24 with a $45,000 bail, according to the jail’s website.
