Scotland's Tartan Army puts cone on Dan Marino statue at World Cup

MIAMI GARDENS — Not even the great Dan Marino can escape the passions of the Tartan Army.

Fans of the Scotland national soccer team topped the Marino statue in front of Hard Rock Stadium with a traditional orange traffic cone before Scotland’s World Cup match against Brazil on Wednesday, June 24.

Marino joined Spanish conquistador Juan Ponce de León, whose statue was “coned” earlier this week, and a long list of Boston landmarks that have been topped with orange traffic cones as part of a traditional Scottish prank.

Miami police officers and stadium security seemed to be in on the humor Wednesday as many were posing for selfies and offering to take photos of Scottish fans in front of the statue.

Scotland’s Tartan Army has become a darling of the 2026 World Cup with their good-natured humor and merrymaking across the United States.

On Monday, Scotland fans marched through Little Havana in Miami before taking over loanDepot Park to attend a Miami Marlins-Texas Rangers baseball game.

On the pitch, Scotland has one win and one loss so far in the World Cup, their final group stage match against the Brazil one of the biggest in the country’s history.

A win, or even draw, will likely see the Scotland advance to the knockout stages for the first time ever.
