Chip Kelly loses in humiliating fashion against Kansas City Chiefs

Chip Kelly’s return to the NFL hit a new low on Sunday, with the Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator seeing his team go scoreless against a division rival with the Raiders falling 31-0 to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kelly’s offense can’t crack 100 total yards on Sunday

The Raiders’ offense didn’t have any life on Sunday, with the team managing just 95 yards of offense while falling to 2-5 on the season. Quarterback Geno Smith has struggled with interceptions this season but that wasn’t the issue on Sunday but he didn’t have much success throwing to his teammates either, throwing for just 67 yards.

Injuries can’t excuse a shutout

Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers missed Sunday’s game, as did tight end Brock Bowers and left tackle Kolton Miller but even with the injuries to key players, the offense had no business being that lifeless against a good, not great, Kansas City defense.

Raiders’ offense is one of the worst in the league with minimal room for growth

On the season, Kelly’s Raiders are averaging just 14.71 points per game with neither the passing or rushing attack proving to be consistently viable for the Raiders. Backup quarterback Kenny Pickett made an appearance in the second half of Sunday’s blowout but outside of Pickett replacing Smith and a potential Meyers trade, there’s not a ton of options for Kelly.

Pac-12 coaches reunion going poorly for the Raiders

The former UCLA head coach returned to the NFL alongside another former Pac-12 coach in Pete Carroll but the return hasn’t gone to plan. The Raiders look like one of the league’s weaker teams despite entering the season with hopes for a playoff appearance.

Maybe Chip Kelly is destined to be a collegiate play caller

The Raiders drafted running back Ashton Jeanty in the first round and wideout Jack Bech in the second round, neither have been able to make a difference for Las Vegas. Despite bringing in Carroll and Kelly, the Raiders look to be in just as much of a rebuild as they were a year ago.

After winning a national championship with Ohio State last year, Kelly may be second-guessing his choice to join the Raiders. Las Vegas is lifeless before the mid-way point of the season while the Buckeyes appear destined for a second-straight national title.
