Chart shows how much draft capital Rams have spent on offense and defense since 2020

The Los Angeles Rams have a reputation of saying “F them picks” because of how frequently they trade away selections for veteran players. Even though that has been a hallmark of Les Snead’s time at the helm, they’ve drafted a lot of players over the years. They just don’t usually come early in the draft.

Warren Sharp put together two charts to show how much draft capital each team has used on offense and defense since 2020. Unsurprisingly, the Rams rank near the bottom on both lists.

According to Sharp, the Rams have used the second-lowest amount of draft capital on offense since 2020. Only the Bills have used less on that side of the ball. The Chiefs and Eagles are both in the bottom-four, too, which is ironic because all four teams have had some of the best offenses in the last six years.

On defense, the Rams are slightly further away from the bottom of the league, ranking 27th in draft capital used in the last six years. They’ve used early-round picks on the likes of Jared Verse, Braden Fiske, Byron Young and Kobie Turner in recent years, which has made a substantial difference defensively.

They’re still well-below average, but they’re closer to the mean on defense.

After aggressively addressing the defense via trade and in free agency this offseason, it’s likely that the Rams will use some of their premium picks in the draft on offense. That could even include No. 13 overall, where a wide receiver would make a ton of sense.

Still, the Rams need more depth on defense, with inside linebacker and cornerback looking like needs – even if not overly pressing ones.

The Rams have seven picks in this year’s draft, but four of them are in the sixth or seventh rounds. They have three others in the top 100, including No. 13 and 61, even after trading away the 29th overall pick for Trent McDuffie.
