Authorities ask for public's help to reduce disaster risk

Officials will hold a public workshop this week to help shape Ventura County’s long-term strategy to reduce disaster risks.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services is developing its latest update of the countywide Hazard Mitigation Plan. Residents, businesses and community organizations can help by sharing their experiences, perspectives and priorities, officials said.

The workshop is scheduled to start a 6 p.m. on June 17 in the community room at the Camarillo Public Library, 4101 Las Posas Road.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan, updated every five years, identifies hazards, from wildfires to earthquakes, and sets strategies to help protect lives, property, infrastructure and the environment.

Maintaining an approved plan also allows the county to remain eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster assistance. For more information, visit readyventuracounty.org.
