A 30-year-old woman was shot and killed in Stockton Monday night, police said.
Police responded just after 11 p.m. Monday to the 600 block of West Martin Luther King Boulevard for a report of a person shot. The shooting happened in the parking lot of Burger King near a few other businesses, according to police.
When officers arrived, they found the woman with a gunshot wound, police said. She was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
The identification of the woman was not immediately released by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office due to notification of next of kin and pending of positive identification.
Officer David Scott, a spokesperson for the Stockton Police Department, said the only releasable information about the victim is her age.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene of the parking lot to take over the investigation.
“Part of that investigation, trying to find that motive,” Scott said. “Detectives are going to be looking into the background of the victim as well as looking into that area, looking for surveillance footage, any potential witnesses that may have saw something or anybody in that area around that time frame.”
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting as of Tuesday.
Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the Stockton Police Department or submit an anonymous tip through Stockton Crime Stoppers at (209) 946-0600.
Police said the woman’s death marked the city’s 12 homicide this year.
