PEORIA — A 17-year-old was shot in the head at Bradley Park and later pronounced dead, and two other teens were injured by gunfire in a separate incident during a series of three shootings on Sunday in different parts of the city.
Jarvis Allison, Jr., of West Millman Street in Peoria, was initially conscious following a shooting around 7:15 p.m. Sunday, but his condition rapidly deteriorated, according to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood. He was transported to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in grave condition and was pronounced dead at 11:41 p.m. Sunday.
An autopsy showed Allison suffered a gunshot wound of the head and “suffered injuries that were incompatible with life,” the coroner said.
The first in a series of shootings Sunday started at a park in a different part of the city.
At about 5:37 p.m., officers responded to Stadium Park in the 500 block of East Lake Avenue on a report of shots fired, according to a release from the Peoria Police Department. Officers located two victims, ages 16 and 17, both suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest while the other was injured in the upper arm. Both were transported to a hospital for treatment.
During the investigation, it was determined that one of the victims was in possession of a stolen firearm, according to police.
At about 6:33 p.m., officers responded to the 6700 block of North Mountello Drive for a separate report of gunfire. Responding officers located evidence that a vehicle and the front door of a residence had been struck. No injuries were reported.
At approximately 7:16 p.m., officers responded to Bradley Park for another report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers encountered a “chaotic scene with numerous individuals fleeing on foot and in vehicles, which delayed immediate access to the victim,” the release said. Officers found a 17-year-old Allison, who had been shot in the head. He was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.
A preliminary investigation showed individuals attending an unrelated event at a park shelter observed two groups actively exchanging gunfire. A canvas of the area identified multiple locations within the park where shots were fired.
All three shootings remain under investigation.
