Jackson Ahrens will be playing NCAA Division-I college baseball.
The East Peoria senior announced on social media his commitment to play for Northern Illinois next season. He had decommitted from Kirkwood College on April 21.
“I am extremely blessed and excited to announce my commitment to Northern Illinois University,” Ahrens posted on Saturday, April 25.
Entering Monday, the infielder was hitting .593 off 35 hits with 11 doubles, five triples, seven homers and 23 RBIs. He added 33 runs, walked 15 times and stole 11 bases.
Ahrens made headlines earlier this season when he hit for the cycle in back-to-back games.
Northern Illinois will officially join the Horizon League for all sports, but football on July 1. Football will play in the Mountain West for the 2026 campaign. The Huskies had been a member of the Mid-American Conference for two stints, 1975-1985 and 1997-2026.
