An autopsy was done on April 27, and preliminary findings show that Henderson died from multiple blunt force injuries from being hit by the car.

According to a news release from ISP, the trooper was traveling southbound on Sixth Street in the middle lane and approaching a green light at the intersection of Sixth and Linton.

Henderson was reportedly bent down in the roadway when the trooper’s squad car hit him. The trooper rendered aid until an ambulance arrived on scene.

The trooper’s name has not been made public.

Trooper Jayme Bufford, a public information officer with ISP, said special agents of the ISP’s Division of Internal Investigation are investigating this crash. That investigation is in accordance with the Police and Community Relations Improvement Act and ISP law.

ISP is processing evidence and conducting interviews surrounding the crash. Upon completion of the investigation, all evidence and facts will be submitted for review to the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
