Wisconsin’s Event City certainly wasn’t wanting for headlines in a May news cycle that featured everything from a SWAT standoff to a piece of Oshkosh lore making its theatrical debut in the “Backrooms.”

Oshkosh human trafficking investigation leads to 9 arrests

Nine men were taken into custody on suspicion of pandering in Oshkosh May 20 as part of an undercover human trafficking investigation.

According to authorities, the Oshkosh Police Department’s Vice and Narcotics Unit arrested men from Oshkosh, Kimberly, Weyauwega, Sturgeon Bay, Sheboygan, Neenah, Fond du Lac and Texas between the ages of 20 to 55.

Oshkosh student hospitalized after being hit by vehicle

A Perry Tipler Middle School student was hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle near Oshkosh West High School after both schools were dismissed May 13.

In a letter to the families of both schools, Oshkosh Area School District said school staff responded immediately and called 911.

According to the district, the student was transported to the hospital with their family being immediately notified.

Oshkosh council approves Woodman’s plan to redevelop Shops at Oshkosh

Woodman’s will look to start building its next supermarket at the Shops at Oshkosh after Common Council greenlit development plans for a grocery store, gas station and car wash at the 37-acre property on South Washburn Street.

The decision felt almost procedural, with nary a discussion before council unanimously approved Woodman’s zone change requests, creation of a five-lot commercial subdivision, general development plan and site implementation plan at its May 12 meeting.

Oshkosh superintendent denied raise as district budget deficit doubles

Oshkosh Area School District Superintendent Bryan Davis was denied a 2.63% wage increase after the district’s forecasted budget deficit doubled from fall’s estimates.

The board unanimously approved the decision mere moments after addressing an ever-ballooning 2026-27 budget shortfall that soared from previous projections of $5.5 million to $10.9 million in a matter of three months.

Oshkosh police recover body after Fox River jump

Authorities located the body of a man who was said to have jumped into the Fox River from the Main Street Bridge May 13.

Oshkosh Police Department said the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was able to locate the man’s body using specialized sonar equipment.

Police said foul play was not suspected.
