In advance of release of College Football ’27, EA is releasing several rankings, including home field advantage. Where does Texas Football’s Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium rank?
DKR is one of the premier venues in college football. But since the early 1980s, the atmosphere at Memorial Stadium has been described as a “wine and cheese” crowd. That perception began to change in the late 1990s when Mack Brown took over as coach and DeLoss Dodds as athletic director.
“Come early, be loud, stay late, wear orange!” became a slogan publicly pushed by the program and it worked. It was once seen by most Texas students as “uncool” to wear UT shirts and colors to the games. But Brown, with the help of Vince Young, made DKR a tougher place to play.
Current AD Chris Del Conte and coach Steve Sarkisian have helped the atmosphere at DKR as well. Del Conte came up with Bevo Boulevard and Sark has lobbied for a student section closer to the field. The results have shown.
Since the year 2000, UT is 127-24. In the past three season, the Longhorns are 21-1 at DKR. The stadium has become a fortress. Much of that is the quality of the team. A lot of that is an improved experience.
Nationally, the perception is better. But there is still a sense Texas ranks behind several Big Ten and SEC stadiums, including UT’s biggest rivals. Both Oklahoma and Texas A&M rank higher thank Texas. But where UT used to barley crack the top 25, not it is pushing to get into the top ten.
DKR is ranked No. 11 in the EA CFB 27 rankings. Probably lower than it realistically should be, but considering where it was, the improvement in perception is a good trend.
EA Sports College Football 27 will officially release worldwide on July 9, 2026.
