Texans rookie WR turning heads at OTAs, a star in the making for Houston?

Who was the biggest surprise player for the Houston Texans during OTAs?

Naturally, the Texans have time before anyone truly will stand out and catch the eye of coaches worthy of playing time. Pads haven’t even been added and teams are barely putting together installs in the early stages of summers.

Still, a fast start could warrant more of a look once August rolls around and the preseason begins. For the Texans, ESPN’s D.J. Bien-Aime isn’t ready to say sixth-round pick Lewis Bond is destined to become an Antonio Brown clone, but he walked away impressed with his timely routes and consistency during early drills.

“Bond, a 2026 sixth-round pick, practiced with the second-team offense and has made plays with the group. He has turned heads throughout the offseason to the point that he has an online team fanbase called the Lewis Bond Fan Club,” Bien-Aime wrote. “It’s early, so we need to see if he can continue this performance into training camp, but this is a great start for the former Boston College standout.”

Known for his consistency in college, Bond caught a career-high 88 passes for 993 receiving yards and a touchdown during his final season under former Texans coach Bill O’Brien. With the move, he ended up breaking Boston College’s single-season program record in receptions.

For his career, the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder hauled in 213 receptions.

In terms of an immediate role, Bond likely enters the room as nothing more than a late-round option looking to stand out. The Texans already have five receivers on the staff, including Pro Bowler Nico Collins and fourth-year pro Tank Dell.

The Texans and Bond return to camp on July 21 for rookie reporting day. To read every team’s breakout star of OTAs, click here.
