A 25-year-old Shasta County man died and another man was seriously injured after a head-on crash Sunday night in Anderson, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The incident happened before 7 p.m. on June 21 on Panorama Point Road, south of Kimberly Road when the 25-year old’s northbound GMC sport utility vehicle crossed over into the southbound lane and crashed into a Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Paul Pascual Jr., 77, of Cottonwood.
Both vehicles rolled over on impact, and the SUV caught fire. The SUV landed on the railroad tracks, while the Chevrolet landed on the right shoulder of Kimberly Road just west of the tracks, according to the CHP’s collision report.
Medical first responders tried to extricate the man who was in the SUV but were unsuccessful. He died from injuries he suffered due to the crash. The CHP said he was an Anderson resident, but the agency withheld his name while law enforcement notifies his family of his death.
Pascual suffered serious cuts to his right arm and other injuries. He was rushed to Mercy Medical Center in Redding for medical treatment, the CHP said.

The CHP was investigating the cause of the crash on Monday. Neither driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, said Sgt. Timothy Hinkson with the CHP’s Northern Division.
