From Moore-Kittles Field to Overland Park, Kansas.
Florida A&M legend Marquis Grissom has been selected for the College Baseball Hall of Fame. The FAMU Rattler star of yesterday is part of the 21-player 2026 class that includes Barry Bonds of Arizona State and fellow former Tallahassee-based baseball star Buster Posey of Florida State.
The 19th annual induction ceremony is on Feb. 11, 2027, at the Overland Park Marriott.
Marquis Grissom leaves a lasting legacy at FAMU baseball
Two seasons were all it took for Grissom to rise to stardom on The Highest of Seven Hills. He spent two seasons in Orange and Green as a standout outfielder and pitcher, 1987 and 1988.
Grissom’s final season saw him lead the NCAA Division I in runs scored and triples per game.
He is a member of the FAMU Hall of Fame, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Hall of Fame, and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
After college, he was selected in the third round of Major League Baseball’s 1988 Draft by the Montreal Expos, where he spent six seasons and became a two-time All-Star in 1993 and 1994 and the National League’s stolen base leader in 1991 and 1992.
Grissom played two seasons with his hometown team, the Atlanta Braves, helping the ballclub win its first World Series championship in 1995. Other teams Grissom suited up for are the Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Francisco Giants.
More awards Grissom earned in the MLB were four straight Golden Gloves from 1993 to 1996 and League Championship Series Most Valuable Player in 1997.
Grissom coached the Washington Nationals in 2009 and now, at 59 years old, owns the New Jack City Ballers, a franchise in the developmental Legacy League Baseball based in Jackson, Mississippi.
