The Hospitals of Providence’s largest and oldest hospital has a new leader.
Victoria Gonzalez, who has worked for the Providence network for 30 years, has been promoted to chief executive officer of the Providence Memorial campus, which includes the 486-bed Memorial general hospital and the 148-bed Providence Children’s Hospital. Providence officials announced the appointment June 17.
Gonzalez, an El Paso native and Andress High School graduate, has held various financial management jobs for Providence, El Paso’s largest healthcare network. She most recently was Providence Group chief financial officer and CFO for the Memorial and children’s hospitals.
She replaces Rob Anderson, who was Memorial CEO for almost three years before leaving in April 2025 to become CEO of Lakewood Ranch Medical Center in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. The 120-bed hospital is owned by Pennsylvania-based Universal Health Services Inc.
Nicholas Tejeda, the executive overseeing the Providence network for Tenet Healthcare Corp., Providence’s parent company, was Memorial’s interim CEO while a national search was conducted for a new CEO, Monique Poessiger, a Providence spokesperson, said in a text message. Gonzalez also took additional responsibilities at the Memorial campus while the search was done, Poessiger said.
Tejeda said in a statement that Gonzalez is an exceptional leader “instrumental in expanding services lines across the (El Paso) market.”
“As a native El Pasoan, Victoria brings a deep understanding of our community and a personal commitment to improving access to high-quality care,” Tejeda said.
Gonzalez has a master’s degree in healthcare administration from San Antonio’s Trinity University and a bachelor’s degree in business and accounting from the University of Phoenix, which once had two campuses in the El Paso area.
