Ten games in the Coastal Bend over the opening weeks of the Texas high school football season will taking donations and raising money through the annual Peanut Butter Bowl campaign which reaches its 10th season this fall.
Schools and districts that participate designate their opening week game as a Peanut Butter Bowl, raising donations of jars of peanut butter and money that will be directed to a food bank, pantry or food ministry which serves the local community.
Nearly half a million jars of peanut butter have been donated since the program’s inception. Participating schools will wear decals on their helmets and take donation of jars of peanut butter in the weeks leading up to the game and at game facilities. The schools and games participating in South Texas were announced at a media day held at the Ray High School gym on Monday, July 27.
Organizers spoke and coaches and players representing each participating school were invited to speak during the event.
