Amarillo College’s Oeschger Family Mall sidewalk was once again transformed into a colorful impromptu gallery of 8-foot squares of original artwork over the weekend during the 8th annual Chalk It Up event.
The sidewalk art competition took place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 25, followed by judging and an awards ceremony, with cash prizes awarded to the top entries.

The art could be seen taking shape in the form of landscapes, people, animals and more throughout the morning between the Ware Student Commons and the College Union Building, just north of the pedestrian bridge spanning 24th Avenue on AC’s Washington Street campus.
“The community has thoroughly embraced Chalk It Up,” said Kevin Ball, Amarillo College vice president of communications and marketing and CEO of Panhandle PBS. “Watching these incredible works of art come to life throughout the morning is a true celebration of creativity and community spirit. It’s an event that brings people together and showcases the remarkable talent we have in our region.”
