In an effort to be more “Fan-First,” UTEP athletics is trying out a true first. They are opening up their kickoff time for their Oct. 17 Sun Bowl game against San Jose State to a fan vote.
As part of “Innovation Day,” fans can go to a link (https://utep.questionpro.com/InnovationDay) and vote on their preference for a 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m. or 7 p.m. kickoff.
While UTEP routinely polls its season-ticket holders for kick time preferences, this is the first time it has put its kickoff time to a fan vote.
“In the spirit of innovation and with a Fan-First mentality in mind, we’d like for our fans to set the time for the game,” UTEP athletic director Jim Senter said. “This is the first step in providing a more interactive experience for Miner Nation when we take on our old WAC rivals, the Spartans!”
Voting has opened and runs through July 1. Per UTEP’s release announcing this, “More ‘Innovation Day’”’ initiatives will be announced in the near future.”
The Miners’ first two home games, against Texas Southern on Sept. 12 and Oregon State on Sept. 26, are at 7 p.m. The other four games, all on Saturday, are TBA, and now UTEP has revealed how it will determine that against San Jose State.
