El Tri has been strong defensively and has yet to give up a goal in this World Cup, one of only four teams to have that distinction, along with Spain, Argentina and Ghana. That means Mexico has created a situation where this match doesn’t matter for them and offers a chance to give some back-of-the-benchers World Cup experience.
This will be the last time that’s true for Mexico, as it opens the knockout rounds on June 30.
