El Paso Then: Our city has experienced some amazing significant and historic events.
In the 1930s, El Pasoans were visiting Scenic Drive, Elephant Butte Lake and San Jacinto Plaza.
The Sun City also has special visits by the super stars of the era including Sally Ellers, and heavy weight boxer Max Baer, both in town for a quickie Juárez divorce.
A top news story of the time involved a prisoner exchange in the middle of the Santa Fe Street Bridge in the early morning hours of April 20, 1933. Jeff Meers and Jose Carrasco were exchanged by authorities from the United States and Mexico.
