Alas, Kent Staten did not commit to Kent State.
On June 20, Maple Heights High School quarterback Kentsten “Kent” Staten announced on social media that he committed to play college football at the University of Toledo, rather than the school he shares a near-identical name with.
Hailing from Bedford, Ohio, Staten is an unranked prospect in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports. He also received offers from Miami (OH), Memphis, Bowling Green and … Kent State.
Staten announced he received an offer from Kent State on May 7. Kent State defensive backs coaches Bart Tanski and Jake Baiz visited him on May 20.
Though 247Sports lists him as an athlete without a specific position, Staten plays as a quarterback and strong safety at Maple Heights High School, where he transferred to ahead of the 2026 season. Staten was previously at Bedford High School.
