ODOT is closing the Interstate 70 westbound ramp to West Mound Street in Franklinton for a week because of wrong-way drivers, according to a June 24 ODOT press release.
Since ODOT closed the adjacent East Mound Street to I-70 eastbound ramp on June 16, the department has observed multiple motorists driving past signs and barrels to take the I-70 westbound ramp to Mound Street going the wrong way, according to the press release. The I-70 westbound ramp closure will start at 10 p.m. June 24 and will end on July 1.
ODOT’s recommended detour for the closure is I-70 westbound to Central Avenue to Mound Street.
Wrong way crashes are very rare in Ohio – they made up just 0.3% of all Ohio crashes in 2025 – but are 40 times more likely to be deadly. ODOT plans to install 30 wrong way driver detection cameras around Columbus over the next several months, The Dispatch previously reported.
