Pleasant Valley/River Road Revitalization Group held their first Community Picnic on Saturday, July 18 with a mission to help the community and to get their kids, grades 1,2 and 4 mainly, ready for school days — which are rapidly approaching.
“Our group wants to make a meaningful impact in the lives of our neighbors, and the picnic was just the beginning to show area residents our endless possibilities for our future,” said Hope McCoy, spokesman for the group.
McCoy said that they were able to gather 103 backpacks for their school kids and were thankful for all the support and for their vendors who came out to support them.
Among the services offered at the picnic were from the Amarillo Public Health Department, Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare, Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY), Potter County Sheriff’s Department representive, a Women’s Breastn Cancer awareness group and Texas Womens Health Plan.
Ruly Bee’s Food Truck was also there to feed the crowd. City Councilman Tim Reid was in attendance, and Plains Dairy and Coca Cola donated drinks for the event.
“We are proud and honored that we could do a beautiful mural for this community, with help from a grant from WT Civic Community Experiment for $13,600 along with Amarilo Area Foundation,” said McCoy. “This shows unity in our community. Being a grassroots community, this was a great start.”
The City of Amarillo recently announced it will be doing a Pleasant Valley Park Playground Replacement. for $100,000 in the near future.
