To keep lights from twinkling in your rearview mirror that aren’t the kind celebrating the holiday season, remember the Abilene Police Department has ratcheted up traffic enforcement through 2025.
Funds from a Texas Department of Transportation grant are going toward changing driving habits and making the roads safer, the APD said in a media release.
“Selected officers will target specific areas of Abilene by increasing enforcement for a month-to-month period through a grant provided by the Texas Department of Transportation,” the media release said.
The focus will be on several areas of the city, including the Winters Freeway and the South First corridor, police said.
Officers will be looking for several issues, including speeding, distracted driving, seatbelt and child restraint violations, and DWI, police said.
The police department reminded drivers to practice defensive driving and slow down.
