Jerry confirms Cowboys have received draft trade calls

The Cowboys are certainly prepared to trade when the NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday night. At their pre-draft presser on Wednesday, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones admitted that Dallas has already received trade calls from other teams looking to establish parameters around what a swap could look like.

The front office men, Jerry, Stepen Jones and Will McClay shared the stage on Wednesday with head coach Brian Schottenheimer, and answered questions from the media on the team’s preparation for the three-day event. The initial rounds of questioning centered around trading, which most national outlets have linked Dallas to.

First, Stephen Jones commented on the temperature of talks, saying “I wouldn’t say they’ve necessarily heated up, there’s always the occiassional call about interest, but nothing concrete.” But then Jerry chimed in with “You could imagine making a call right now and making a trade. Picks or players. That hasn’t usually been our experience… the nature of having extra picks in that first round gives more credence to some options. And one that would be up or down.”

But then he was asked point blank by Clarence Hil of DLLS Sports, whether or not they’ve received calls from other teams trying to work out the parameters of deals. The elder Jones flatly replied, “Yes.”

“We look at both. (trading up and down) There’s every type of trade possible. Players on other rosters, draft picks, all of that is in play.”

“We’re real prepared for our options here. Probably more so than if we just had one pick.”

The Cowboys have the No. 12 and No. 20 picks in the draft that kicks off at 8 pm Eastern on Thursday night, with Rounds 2 and 3 on Friday night and 4 through 7 on Saturday morning.
