Truck driver charged in fatal Taylor County crash

A truck driver has been charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with a crash that killed a 26-year-old Texas man Tuesday in Taylor County, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a media release.

Miguel Angel Casanova, 68, of Saint Cloud, Florida, was being held Wednesday in the Taylor County Jail on a $100,000 bond, according to online jail records.

He was charged in connection with the death of Adam Lee Reyna, 26, of Mission, the DPS said. Casanova was alleged to be intoxicated from an overdose of medication and was arrested following treatment at Hendrick North Emergency Care.

Intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle is a second degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison. Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The DPS preliminary investigation determined a 2006 Mack truck-tractor towing a CTS semitrailer was going westbound on County Road 54 at about 5 p.m. Tuesday, the media release said. Driven by Casanova, the Mack truck approached a stop sign at the intersection with State Highway 351.

A 2019 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Reyna was traveling north on State Highway 351 toward the same intersection, the DPS said. The driver of the Mack truck allegedly failed to yield to the pickup at the stop sign, and the vehicles collided.

The pickup caught fire and was destroyed, the DPS said.

Reyna was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash by Taylor County Justice of the Peace Mike McAuliffe, the DPS said. Casanova, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries.

It’s unknown if Reyna was wearing a seatbelt, the DPS said.
