New York State Police are investigating a fatal tractor trailer crash on the thruway, according to a statement from law enforcement.
At around 1:25 a.m. on March 5, New York State Police said in a statement that a police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 westbound near mile marker 243.7 in the town of Westmoreland.
A preliminary investigation determined that a tractor trailer operated by Ahmad Riyad Alomori, 42, of New Jersey, was traveling westbound in the right lane while hauling an empty car carrier for A1 Truck Lines.
A second tractor trailer, operated by a driver with DNT Express, subsequently struck the rear of the car hauler. Both vehicles were pushed to the right shoulder following the collision.
The male operator of the DNT Express tractor trailer sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, authorities said.
Police say his identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Alomori sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wynn Hospital for evaluation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
