Report: Willie Taggart will join New York Giants' staff in some capacity

The New York Giants are adding Willie Taggart to new head coach John Harbaugh’s staff, reports The Athletic’s Ian O’Connor.

Taggart, who served as assistant head coach and running backs coach for the Baltimore Ravens the past two seasons, is expected to take a similar position-coach role in East Rutherford. His addition brings proven run-game expertise, having played a key part in sustaining Derrick Henry’s dominance during his time in Baltimore.

Just days ago, the Giants formally requested permission to interview Taggart for their vacant offensive coordinator position. While he was considered for the role, reports indicate the interview primarily helped toward satisfying the NFL’s Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview at least two minority candidates for senior coaching jobs.

The Giants are widely expected to hire Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their OC instead.

Taggart’s deep ties to the Harbaugh family make him a natural fit. He was recruited by John and Jim Harbaugh, coached under Jack Harbaugh at Western Kentucky, Jim at Stanford, and John in Baltimore.

The move has been described as a “very good addition” for a Giants staff transitioning under Harbaugh.
