The Army men’s lacrosse team earned three major awards, and six spots on the Patriot League all-star teams for the 2026 season.
Senior midfielder Evan Plunkett, of Roswell, Georgia, was named the offensive player of the year for the second time, and four times as a Patriot first-team all-star. Senior John Sullivan, of Nashua, New Hampshire, was named the defensive player of the year. Senior Sean Byrne, of Acworth, Georgia, was named the goalkeeper of the year for the second time. All three of these cadets were first-team all-league choices.
Also named all-league were senior short-stick defensive midfielder Keagan Treacy, of Woodbine, Maryland, on the first team, plus second-team picks Hill Plunkett, a sophomore attack from Roswell, Georgia, and sophomore midfielder Aiden Weisenborn, of West Chicago, Illinois.
Evan Plunkett, a Tewaaraton top-25 finalist for this season, was recently selected No. 4 overall in the Premier Lacrosse League draft by the Denver Outlaws – he would be eligible to pursue a pro career before fulfilling his military obligations. As of this week, Plunkett leads the team with 55 points and 34 assists, and ranks fourth with 21 goals – he has career numbers of 179 points, 94 assists and 85 goals.
Sullivan leads Army with 20 caused turnovers, and has 24 ground balls. Translating from defense on Army’s fast-attack offense on occasion, Sullivan has three goals an two assists.
Byrne, also a Tewaaraton finalist, currently ranks second in the nation with a .604 save percentage (174 total saves) and seventh in goals-against average (8.43 per match). He spearheads a goalkeeper unit that has allowed only 121 goals.
Treacy has 19 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. Hill Plunkett has 28 goals, 17 assists and 45 points. Weisenborn has 15 goals, five assists and 20 points.
Army (11-3) finished in a three-way tie for first place in the Patriot League, earning the tie-breaker for the No. 1 seed and hosting duties for the league’s Final Four this weekend.
In Tuesday’s quarterfinals, No. 6 Lehigh travels to No. 3 Boston University and No. 5 Colgate travels to No. 4 Bucknell. In Friday’s semifinals at West Point’s Michie Stadium, The lowest-remaining seed will face No. 1 Army at 4 p.m., and No. 2 Loyola, Md., will take on the other survivor. Sunday’s championship will be noon.
