Four people have been arrested and charged in connection to the April 19 death of Carl Chambers at the City of Poughkeepsie’s Stitzel Field on Lincoln Avenue.
City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Detective Lieutenant Sean McCarthy announced June 8 that the department’s Detective Bureau had conducted the operation to arrest the four local individuals.
As a result, Sharnado Green, 29, of Hyde Park; Peter Green, 31, of the City of Poughkeepsie; Paul Green, 34, of the City of Poughkeepsie; and Tyrese Hall, 21, of the City of Poughkeepsie, were arrested.
Each was charged with second-degree murder.
What happened on April 19?
According to a Facebook post by the City of Poughkeepsie PBA, at 6:33 p.m. April 19, the city’s public safety dispatchers received a Raven gunshot detection alert as well as several calls for shots fired near Stitzel Field.
Numerous patrol officers were dispatched, and when they arrived, officers found some people in the area had gathered for a local adult soccer game.
From the information officers gathered, it appeared multiple people had exchanged gunfire across the street from the soccer field, and those involved had not been located.
Officers discovered the victim, Chambers, 46, of Marlboro, was being transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A vehicle was also located and the vehicle occupants were interviewed.
Later, public safety dispatchers received another call, and an additional victim, who was not named, had been transported to a local hospital. The individual was treated and deemed stable, and associated persons were interviewed.
The preliminary investigation revealed there was an exchange of gunfire by several people, and initial evidence recovered indicated three different weapons were fired, one of which, according to evidence, was a high-powered rifle.
An intensive investigation was then initiated by the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Detective Division, with assistance from the Technical Assistance Response Unit and Crime Scene Unit, including evidence recovery, examination and witness statements.
What’s next in the investigation
Sharnado Green, Peter Green, Paul Green and Hall are being held pending arraignment.
