From Beetlejuice to The Wiz, Clemens Center Broadway Series unveiled

The Clemens Center for the Performing Arts in Elmira unveiled some big name productions on Monday, June 8 when center officials announced the lineup for the 2026-27 Broadway Series.

The series will debut its lineup in September with “Mystic Pizza,” and five of the six shows will be making their local premieres. Other shows in the upcoming series include The Bodyguard, Beetlejuice, Hadestown, Jersey Boys and The Wiz.

The Clemens Center partners with NAC Entertainment to assemble the lineup of productions, and the series is sponsored by M&T Bank.

“This six-show season brings world class theater right to our backyard, boosting our community’s spirit and well-being with Broadway shows without the travel to New York City,” said Clemens Center Executive Director Karen Cromer. “Plus adding two extra nights of performances will draw visitors from up to 90 miles away to patronize local restaurants and shops.”

Having several recognizable names in the lineup makes it easier to promote the series to the public, Cromer said.

NAC Entertainment President and CEO Albert Nocciolino echoed Cromer’s sentiments about the economic impact of the Broadway Series on Elmira and the Southern Tier.

“Art provides enormous economic impact,” Nocciolino said. “Every time we bring a show here, it’s another $2 million or $4 million economic impact.”

M&T Bank sponsors similar theatrical series in other upstate cities, including Binghamton and Rochester, and Regional President Peter Newman said those programs provide benefits beyond the economic boost.

“We love the theater, we love Broadway. We talk about the economic impact,” Newman said. “How about the arts and just making it a better place to live and work because we have access to incredible Broadway performances.”
