FINAL ROUND
Nina Choe did a lot of leapfrogging in the final round of the NYSPHSAA Girls Golf Championship and climbed into third place with the best final round of the day. The senior at Ursuline was in 12th place after the opening round, but the defending champion shot a 4-under 68 Monday at Wild Wood Country Club to finish with a 4-over total of 148.
Hayden Knapp of South Glens Falls took home the championship, winning by two strokes with a 2-under total of 142.
Scarsdale finished third in the team competition and Section 1 as a group finished fourth.
Graham Erickson was the highest Section 1 finisher in the boys championship at Mill Creek Country Club. The sophomore at Rye closed with a 2-under 69, placing sixth with a 2-over 144 total. Ryan Liu of Manhasset and Charles Nevin of Friends Academy tied for the title at 6-under.
Ryker Kevorkian of Rye and Sam Gao of Scarsdale also posted top-10 finishes, tying for seventh with a 3-over total of 145.

There is work to be done if Section 1’s best golfers are going to contend for NYSPHSAA titles.
Scarsdale’s Sam Gao and Rye’s Ryker Kevorkian are tied for ninth following the first round of the boys championships at Mill Creek Golf Club in Churchville. They are four shots behind leader Josh Yan of Newburgh Free Academy, who opened with a 4-under 67. Yorktown’s Kurt Carey is five back heading into Monday’s final round.
Scarsdale’s Arwen Dong is seventh after the first round of the girls championships at Wild Wood Country Club in Rush. She is four shots behind leader Rachel O’Rourke of Rome Free Academy, who posted a 1-under 71. Ursuline’s Nina Choe, the defending champion, is seven shots back heading into Monday’s final round.
