Democrat and Chronicle to make move in 2026

The Democrat and Chronicle plans to leave its current leased space at 245 East Main St. in the second half of 2026.

“As we continue to evolve how we work, we’re exploring options for new office space and expect to relocate in fall 2026,” D&C General Manager Heather Falkey and Executive Editor Mike Kilian wrote in a statement to employees.

In the New Year, the D&C will pursue finding “a space that better supports how we operate today – one that encourages collaboration, connection and the kind of in-person energy that strengthens our journalism.”

“We remain as dedicated as ever to delivering trusted, essential reporting and serving as a vital part of the greater Rochester community. This move supports that mission and positions us for the future,” Falkey and Kilian wrote.

The Democrat and Chronicle has a long history serving Rochesterians, dating back to when the newspaper was founded in 1833.

The news operation moved into two floors of its current building at the corner of Main and Clinton in spring 2016.

For many decades previously, the Democrat and Chronicle and the former Times Union afternoon newspaper had operated in the Gannett Building at 55 Exchange Blvd.

Gannett Co. Inc., now called USA TODAY Co., was headquartered in Rochester from the 1920s until the 1980s.
