CSD Housing and HELP Development Corp held a grand opening ceremony on Sept. 17 for the Center City Courtyard, a new mixed-use residential development in downtown Rochester.
The building was constructed on what was a former parking lot on West Main Street in downtown Rochester.
The development is a five-story, $72 million affordable housing community that consist of 164 units, with 95 of the units being designated as supportive housing for veterans, those who are struggling with homelessness, substance abuse or mental health challenges and individuals who were formerly incarcerated.
The organizations providing support services are Helio Health, the Urban League of Rochester and Eagle Star Housing.

The apartment complex also features amenities such as a courtyard, resident lounges, a fitness center and office spaces for supportive service providers.
Whitney McClary, development director of CSD Housing, described Center City Courtyard as not just a building but a community. “This development will provide safe, affordable housing with the supportive services residents need to thrive, while also contributing to the vitality of downtown Rochester,” McClary said.
Center City Courtyard complements Gov. Kathy Hochul’s $25 billion five-year housing plan which is to create or preserve 100,000 affordable homes statewide.
Mayor Malik Evans said he is happy to see the project completed and thinks the development serves as a great illustration of what high quality affordable housing looks like.
“This sends a message, as have many of our other projects in the last couple of years, that when we have good quality affordable housing it means we are taking care of the least of these in our community and making sure they have a ladder out of poverty,” Evans said.
