Ford, Scott named to All-Greater Rochester Indoor Track & Field Team

The All-Greater Rochester Boys Indoor Track and Field Team was selected by coaches with input from Democrat and Chronicle staff.

Athlete of the Year

Aiden Bryant

School: Midlakes

Year: Senior

Parents: Emily Bryant and Joseph Lord

Events: Long jump and triple jump

Why Bryant is the All-Greater Rochester Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year: The now three-time AGR Boys Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year broke the triple jump state record by bounding out to 51 feet-10 inches. This triple jump might be in the all-time top 10 among high school athletes in the United States.

Future plans: Further my academic and athletic career at Princeton University.

Ibrahim Ford, Arkport-Canaseraga

Team: Arkport/Canaseraga 

Year: Junior

Parents: Tammy and Brad Fish

Events: Distance races

Key accomplishments: Finished in fourth place in the 3,200-meter state race for athletes in all classes and from schools of all sizes. Ford also came in 10th in the 1,600.

Future plans: The 2025 AGR Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year said after the fall season that he plans to “attend Cornell University to study engineering and further my running career.”

Xavier Scott, Wellsville

School: Wellsville

Year: Senior

Parents: Josie Virkus and Douglas Scott

Events: 55-meter hurdles and long jump

Key accomplishment: 7.64 seconds in the 55 hurdles.

Future plans: Undecided.

Ben Burns

School: Williamson

Year: Senior

Parent: Jennifer Grandjean

Events: Mid-distance races

Key accomplishment: Running the 600-meter in 1:21.29.

Future plans: I plan to attend a four-year college to study mechanical engineering.

Harper Capuano

School: Irondequoit

Year: Senior

Events: Jumps

Key accomplishments: Second-place on the Section V long jump leaderboard at the end of the season and third among the top triple jumpers.

Future plans: Did not submit.

Noah Collins-Howard

School: Rush-Henrietta

Year: Junior

Parents: Natalya and Terrance Collins-Howard

Events: Sprints

Key accomplishment: Breaking the Section V record in the 55-meter dash.

Future plans: Syracuse University.

Jeremiah Dyer

School: Webster Schroeder

Year: Sophomore

Parents: Neadria McWilliams, Quintin McWilliams and Derrick Dyer

Events: Sprints and relays.

Key accomplishment: 300-meter race in 34.27.

Future plans: LSU (Louisiana State University).

Luis Falu

School: Monroe

Year: Senior

Events: Long jump and sprints

Key accomplishments: Two sectional titles (long jump and 55-meter dash) and placing fourth at state championships.

Future plans: Don’t know where I’m attending, but I’ll be going to college and play two sports.

Alex Fish

School: Hilton

Year: Junior

Parents: Tammy and Brad Fish

Event: Pole vault

Key accomplishments: Winning the state qualifying meet and hitting a new personal-best and school record of 14 feet.

Future plans: Pole vault in college.

Daniel Gawel

School: Honeoye

Year: Senior

Parents: Kathi and Jake Gawel

Events: Throws, pole vault, 55- and 300-meter dashes.

Key accomplishments: Top weight throw (63 feet-8 inches), shot put (43-6) and pole vault (11-6).

Future plans: Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) workforce.

Andrew Green

School: Fairport

Year: Senior

Parents: Kristen and Bill Green

Events: Distance races

Key accomplishment: Running 9:14 in the 3,200-meter at states.

Future plans: Attend University at Buffalo and continue my athletic and running careers there.

Desmond Hill

School: Marcus Whitman

Year: Sophomore

Parents: Molly and Lawrence Hill

Events: Distance races

Key accomplishments: Top 1,000-meter race (2:36), 1,600 (4:25) and 3,200 (9:31).

Future plans: This spring, run the 4×800 meter relay at the state championships and nationals with the Marcus Whitman team.

Brennen Ingram

School: East Rochester

Year: Junior

Parent: Christina Ingram

Events: Sprints and relays

Key accomplishments: Winning the state championship in the 4×200-meter relay and 4×400-meter relay.

Future plans: Attend college and compete in track and field.

Zine Kantari

School: Pittsford Sutherland

Year: Sophomore

Parent: Susan Jennings

Events: Mid- and long distance races

Key accomplishment: Two Section V championship wins.

Future plans: Begin college recruiting process.

Karvel Martino

School: Batavia

Year: Senior

Parents: Rachell Soggs and Fred Martino

Key accomplishment: 57 feet-7 inches in a shot put competition.

Future plans: Attend school at Alfred State.

Anthony McKinney Jr

School: Eastridge

Year: Senior

Parents: Shalana and Anthony McKinney Sr.

Event: High jump

Key accomplishment: Jumping 6 feet-8 inches at sectionals.

Future plans: Undecided.

Juan Muñoz III

School: Webster Thomas

Year: Senior

Parents: Jalise and Juan Muñoz

Events: Triple jump and long jump

Key accomplishments: Competed at state championships and the New Balance Indoor Nationals in triple jump. Personal-record of 47 feet-2 inches.

Future plans: Attending SUNY Geneseo in the fall. I will be a jumper on the school’s track and field team.

Josh Tara

School: Webster Schroeder

Year: Junior

Parents: Kelly and Jeff Tara

Event: Pole vault

Key accomplishments: I’m most proud of placing seconnd at the state championships this indoor season, as well as going to the New Balance Nationals with a height of 15 feet-2 inches.

Future plans: I plan on continuing to keep vaulting, as well as attend and compete at the collegiate level, hopefully in Division I.

Beckham Taylor

School: Pittsford Sutherland

Year: Senior

Parents: Chyril and Matthew Taylor

Event: High jump

Key accomplishment: Second place at states

Future plans: Division I track and field at University of Buffalo, and pursuing degrees in art and business.

Ashton Thomas

School: Webster Thomas

Year: Junior

Parent: Rachel Holmes

Event: Triple jump

Key accomplishments: Jumping 48 feet-10 inches and coming in fourth at states (47-11.75).

Future plans: Still thinking about it.

Coach of the Year

Shannon Times

School: Brighton

Profession: Math teacher, cross country assistant coach and varsity track and field coach at Brighton High School/Brighton Central School District.

Varsity coaching experience: Head JV/Varsity track and field coach at Brighton (17 years). Assistant cross country coach at Brighton (11 years).
