A long-time plumbing, heating and cooling business based in Clive has shut its doors, resulting in the layoff of 47 workers, according to Iowa’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, website.
The new filing says the shutdown occurred May 1.
Bill Rhiner’s Plumbing Co. Inc. at 15201 Hickman Road, had done business under various names. Its parent company, Valley Plumbing Co. Inc., was founded in 1983 by Bill Rhiner, according to Iowa secretary of state records.
Rhiner,who died in June 2017, was from Adel and was known for his philanthropic support of local organizations. He worked for Rhiner Brothers Plumbing, a company that was founded by his father and uncle, before forming his own company.
The reason for the shutdown wasn’t stated in the WARN filing.
