Water rained down from the ceiling inside of Meet me on Madison in Downtown Peoria on Aug. 21.
The small business – situated inside the Twin Towers Mall – announced it was currently closed due to the issue in a Facebook post that included a video of water dripping from above.
“(It) is not safe to operate business under these conditions,” the post noted.
Owner Amy Tomblin told the Journal Star the water issue began at around 11:45 a.m. Three hours later, the problem persisted.
Doug Gathers, president and CEO of Twin Tower Mall owner Illinois Business Financial Services, emailed the Journal Star at just after 4:50 p.m. He said the flooding came from the fourth floor “and was stopped several hours ago.”
“Any further dripping water is residual,” he wrote. “Cleanup has been going on for 1 ½ to 2 hours by Hoerr Carpet Cleaning/Restoration. Full clean-up is pending as they work.”
Tomblin spent the early afternoon talking to a variety of people.
She said she spoke to Gathers about the issue and said a maintenance person also stopped by. However, she said she was told S&S Property Management would be responsible for fixing the problem.
Tomblin said S&S Property Management is responsible for the top three floors, while nhs Property Management, Inc. is responsible for the first floor.
Ameren and the fire department also had to be called, Tomblin said, due to the electrical kitchen equipment in the space. She said a building inspector came out, as well.
At this point, Tomblin said she does not know exactly when Meet me on Madison will reopen. She said Hoerr was working on the building’s fourth floor and BluSky Restoration was scheduled to come out on Friday morning.
The Journal Star also called and left a voicemail for S&S Property Management.
