New Dolphins WR named a cut candidate before Week 1

The Miami Dolphins, under new head coach Jeff Hafley and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan, made several changes this offseason, including some large ones in the wide receiver room.

After releasing Tyreek Hill and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, the Dolphins also traded Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos for a first-round pick. To fill some of those holes, Miami went with a two-pronged approach.

In free agency, Miami signed Tutu Atwell, Jalen Tolbert and Terrance Marshall Jr, and in the draft, they took Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell and Kevin Moore Jr.

While the room might not be as talented as it once was last year, it may be more competitive, which leads Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton to believe than one of the new Dolphins wideouts might not make the roster in Week 1.

“Tolbert, who’s on a one-year deal, following three inconsistent seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, has played sparingly on special teams over the last two years,” Moton wrote. “If he doesn’t start, the Dolphins would likely release him.”

The 27-year-old caught 91 passes for 1,093 yards and 10 touchdowns in 55 games over four years in Dallas, but his production dropped off with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens holding down the top spots on the Cowboys’ depth chart.

None of Miami’s weapons are on Lamb or Pickens’ level, so there’s a real chance that Tolbert is one the field for the Dolphins’ first offensive snaps in 2026. However, if all three of the rookies are making the roster out of camp, it will be a numbers crunch for Sullivan and Hafley.
