The battle for the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament championship is officially underway.
Florida A&M baseball is in the eight-team SWAC Tournament as the third seed. The Rattlers (27-22) open against the Texas Southern Tigers (21-22), a six-seed, in Bracket A, on Wednesday, May 20.
Alongside FAMU and Texas Southern, Bracket A includes No. 2 Southern and No. 7 Jackson State. Bracket B is No. 1 Bethune-Cookman, No. 4 Alabama State, No. 5 Grambling State, and No. 8 Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The double-elimination SWAC Tournament runs from Wednesday’s opening round until the winner-take-all championship game on Sunday, May 24. All games will be on SWAC TV for free.
The Orange and Green looks to add to its SWAC title win in 2023 and rebound from a championship game loss to Bethune-Cookman last year.
FAMU will heavily lean on All-SWAC Second Team pitcher Caleb Granger and first-teamer and team homerun leader Jackson McKenzie.
Can they lead the Rattlers to earn the SWAC’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament?
This week will answer.
